3 out of 5 stars good value but has some significant shortcomings   June 11, 2010

good looking and classy tie clip. nice to add a touch of class to any outfit. found a couple dealbreaking problems though

the length of 2.5'' is waaaay too long. if you want to wear this tie clip, you'll have to wear a very wide tie. i exclusively wear skinny or medium width ties and even for my ralph lauren tie, it proved to be unwearable. i was unaware of this issue beforehand, otherwise i wouldnt' even have purchased it.

the fix?
get a pair of snippers. i used a larger pair made by lobster. and cut off about .75''. you get a more versatile tie clip and you get rid of the really cheesy "[...]" logo, which makes it look really cheap.

the clip's grip area isn't very large, just the very tip of the clip. the design doesn't allow for a good grip.

3 out of 5 stars I wish it was a little stronger.   May 21, 2010

I want to preface the rest of this review by saying I do reall enjoy this product. I do however wish that the clasp had a little more strength to keep the bar in place. The tip of the bar furthest from the spring often will sag down my ties and frankly it looks tacky to have a tie bar on diagonally. Besides the constant maintenance, this bar is very stylish. I do appreciate that this bar does not press an imprint into my ties like others I have used did. But at least those bars held for more than an hour. If you don't mind constantly correcting this accessory, you will be happy with it.

2 out of 5 stars Not up to par   March 5, 2010

Purchased this tie clip over a year ago. About 2 inches in length, with back about 1.5 inches long. As stated previously, teeth are very sharp, sharp enough to damage ties. Also, due to the clip really only touching in one place, moves around quite easily. However, most disappointed in the finish. Silver wears off rather quickly (mine in less than a month), showing a copper like color. Definitely not made for usage or to last.

Very nice item, especially for the price!! It's held up fine so far, and has a nice grip. Looks classy too!

3 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for   December 27, 2008

I've been using this for a while now. It is plain, simple, and elegant - great for what I need it for. There are only three downsides I've found:

1) The part of the clip that actually clamps to your tie only does so in one place - as such it has a tendency to rotate on this axis point from the slightest movements of your body. I find myself having to constantly adjust it so it is horizontal.

2) The tongs of the clip are actually quite sharp. One could easily cut their ties with it - especially soft fabric ties - if they weren't careful (you could probably saw small logs with the collective serrated edge).

3) It is fairly short in length, and most of my ties are too wide for it beyond about 2 inches from the neck. This isn't a problem with the product, per se; I should have noticed the length when ordering. I am not a "tie-clip connoisseur" by any measure and as such I presumed that they were generally all the same length. Apparently not - just be forewarned.

As inexpensive as it is, this product is still a bargain, so if you aren't really bothered by the minor drawbacks or just need it for a few occasions, this one is for you.
