Product Description
“You know what this reminds of?” he asked, breaking the awkward silence.

Her expression grew guarded, and her hand shook slightly as she sipped at her drink. “What does it remind you of?”

The deliberate way she kept her eyes focused on her hands told him she already knew.

Scooting his chair closer, he said, “It reminds me of the night a couple of weeks after my dad’s car crash. I’d been at the hospital all day, and all my family wanted to do was argue.”

That had been such a horrible time. His family instead of rallying together had used the opportunity to air old family grievances and create new ones. The stress and turmoil took its toll on Jesse’s already stretched to the limit nerves.

“Unable to deal with their nonsense anymore, I left. It was pouring rain, and I almost wrecked my car, but when I got home you were there —“

He had pulled into his drive and there she was. Waiting for him. He didn’t question why because at that moment he hadn’t cared. She jumped out of her car as soon as he’d parked, and a moment later his mouth was on hers. Eventually they made it inside, but it was a long time before they made it any farther.

“I remember,” she said softly, her voice filled with memories.

She wasn’t looking at him, but he didn’t need to look into her eyes to know what she was thinking. His hand closed the distance between them as he traced a gentle finger along her cheek. She stilled.

“Look at me, Katrina,” he said gently.

Her eyes remained fixed on her hands, but obviously that wasn’t where her mind was. The set of her jaw was a dead giveaway her thoughts were running parallel to his.

He pressed a light, inviting kiss to her cheek. “Look at me, sweetheart.”

As if pulled by invisible strings, her eyes met his. The longing in her gaze mirrored his own. Clearly the memories had gotten the better of her, too. Memories that were stronger than either of them.

Pulling her chair closer, he touched his mouth to hers.

“Jesse.”

Registering the subtle protest, he asked, “Do you want me to stop?” His lips hovered over hers barely touching, although the desire flaming through his veins didn’t make restraining himself easy.

“I – “ But she said no more. Cautiously, one hand moved to his shoulder. Again his mouth touched hers, but there was no heat in her response only hesitation.

“Katrina.” His eyes searched hers. “If you don’t want this, you need to tell me.”
