Product Description In order to receive his inheritance, Jake Mitchell must marry. In order to save her family's farm, Sue Lewis must marry a rich man. So Jake comes up with a plan. Why not strike up a platonic, business arrangement where they can marry each other for six months? Then they are free to annul the marriage and go their separate ways. Unfortunately for him, the people he knows are determined to keep them together. Between an army of suitors willing to woo Sue before her annulment and the Lewis brothers scheming to show Jake how attractive she is, laughter and love are in the air. And in the end, a confirmed bachelor might discover that an inconvenient marriage may not be so inconvenient after all. This historical romantic comedy is rated R.

skip it June 7, 2010 D. Cowden (Dallas, TX) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My biggest issue with this book is that it's set in one time but the dialog is so clearly contemporary. Terms like "grossing me out" and men talking about how a woman is "in the sack" just didn't fit the time period. I forgot at times that it was supposed to be set in the late 1800's. The plot itself is fine, it's the writing that needs work. Another review called it juvenile and that really hits the nail on the head. It feels like something I would have written in high school. I only finished it because I kept waiting for it to get better, but it didn't.
Has Potential March 21, 2010 Claire Farrell (Ireland) I struggled to finish this book, I found myself skimming in places. The redeeming quality was the fact that I did indeed finish it because I wanted to see how the romance between the two main characters developed. If the author cleaned up this story a bit, got rid of the glaring inaccuracies, etc. then I am certain it would be a great, sweet romantic read.
The things that were distracting to me were the modern words and phrasing throughout the book. I kept having to remind myself what time period it was supposed to be set in. The story seemed a little like it was churned out quickly, the characters aren't really developed to their full potential. I would have liked more depth and less unnecessary play acting scenes. I will give one of this author's other books a try. I am sure that people may not be as distracted by the things that bothered me about this book.
Don't waste your money March 18, 2010 Savannah (Colorado) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first, and last, book I will read by this author. It is 1899 in an undisclosed town in Virginia. Jake Mitchell needs to find someone to marry for six months so he can inherit his father's money. Sue Lewis needs money, fast, so her family won't lose their farm. That's about it and you can draw all of the obvious, clichéd conclusions you'd like with amazing accuracy without even reading it.
One of my biggest problems is the glaring anachronisms. Here are just a few: He seemed pleased by her comment. "Never let them see you sweat." * He opened his daily planner so he could pencil in his appointments. * "You sure do a lot of networking when you're here," Jeremiah said.
Really. In 1899? There is no excuse for this kind of sloppy writing.
Most offensive, though, was the author's blatant attempt to compare this "novel" to Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." You would do well to download and read the original - for free. Granted, "An Inconvenient Marriage" was only 99¢. I want my 99¢ back.
Juvenile and full of annoying inconstancies March 12, 2010 S Payne (Buena Park, CA United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I like the characters alot, but thought some of the dialog and scenes seemed juvinile. This book feels like it was geared toward 13-17 year old girls. It is sweet and cute, with way too many practical jokes.
The story is supposed to take place in 1899, but the author has not done enough resarch into this era to make it beliveable. The language and vocabulary used was way too modern. Modern day colloquialisms have no place in a "historical" novel. There is mention "plastic eggs" (really?). The description of the clothing was quite vauge. Basically most of the story could have taken place between 1950 and 1980 and it would have been more belivable, just replace the hired buggy with an automobile. I was seriously waiting for the mention of a "copy machine" or a "telephone".
The main character is a well to do gentelman, who likes to impress his buisness clients and yet he doesn't know how to ride a horse. A wealthy gentleman would certainly know how to ride a horse, it would be like any man today not knowing how to drive a car.
Fantastic Read March 8, 2010 Jackie Taylor (AB, Canada) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I couldn't put this book down, if you like a good love story with a few twists and turns, you will love this book.
