Not good guide for serious grooms November 4, 2009 RDrops 10 out of 21 found this review helpful
My FI was stressing out about wedding planning and I thought getting this book which was known to be cute and funny would lighten things up for him and maybe not have him stress out more.
I flipped through the book a little bit. I didn't read much of it but I liked the art work and the feel of the book, it was a good size and the texture of the pages were nice.
This book was not written for men at all... Like another comment said, it's mostly a gag gift with maybe a sprinkle of good advice here and there.
My groom-to-be was actually looking at it as a seriously guide to help him out with comedy sprinkled in and he was insulted by some of the things it said. One being that from now on I'm always right and he should just sit back and let me and my family do everything. That didn't mesh well with him at all because he is very serious about having in put in this wedding and that was like a slap in the face to him. I told him take it easy and that this is not a serious book at all. I really like that he wants to help with the wedding because it shows he cares about it.
That did not make him feel better, he's a pretty easy going person normally but after reading this book he was grumpy for days! Please don't get give this to your FI if he is serious about wanting to help you with the wedding because I think this book tells him that he's opinion doesn't matter and he shouldn't try when it's really your job to make all the choices about the wedding.
Great! October 21, 2009 Mor and Tookie (NY) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought and the Bride's guide as an Engagement Party gift so I can't speak about the content of the books themselves. However, I can say that after flipping through them, I was very happy with the purchase. It's a soft cover book but the paper itself looks like it's quality paper ... the book includes color pictures and diagrams ... i just love this book. I think when my time comes to get married, I will want this series of books for myself and my husband-to-be :)
Great for brides, too! August 14, 2009 Kimberly Lisagor (San Luis Obispo, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Anyone who is about to undergo the uniquely painful/wonderful process of planning a wedding will appreciate this witty and useful guide to all things nuptial. It may have been written with grooms in mind (the funny drawings and diagrams are particularly dude-oriented), but its non-nonsense, humorous approach to everything from inlaw drama to seating charts makes it a perfect gift for brides and attendants, too.
A must for any groom January 11, 2009 Link Dupont (San Jose, CA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is more than just a good humor gift. There is honest advice in this book that I as a typical groom never would have anticipated. I am just under 100 days away from my wedding, and I can honestly say this book has given me irreplaceable advice. Without it, I would probably be mad by now. ;)
I wish I had acquired and read this book *before* we became so involved in wedding planning. There is a lot of great stuff in here about the proposal and early engagement process (namely the guest list) that would have been infinitely more useful to me at the beginning of my engagement. Nonetheless, this is a great book. If you've just recently popped the question, or are even thinking of popping the question, GET THIS BOOK. It is money well spent.
I bought three! May 5, 2008 S. Wu (Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I orignially got this for my fiance but I started reading it before I saw him and I had to finish it. I bought another 2 for my co-workers who will be getting married soon as well. It's a fun book and it talks about things that as a bride I wouldn't necessarily have thought of.
