Step-by-Step book review May 10, 2010 Jeffrey S. Kem Although the book says it's geared toward the "professional" photographer there we a lot of great tips, ideas, and methods described within the book that would help even the novice wedding photographer.
Just okay April 18, 2010 Bethany (Rochester, NY) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a little disappointed by this book. Some of the pictures are excellent, but some have way too much direct flash, or strange use of fish eye lenses. One photo is in front of a dumpster which he claims is artistic... maybe if the dumpster had been out of focus, but it was clearly a dumpster. Neil Van Niekerk's book was WAY more useful and his flash photography is superior.
I also was a little frustrated with his laundry list of shots to get. I felt exhausted reading it! It read too much like "run here, then run here, then run here, then do this and don't sit down because you have to capture this." That may be true, but I didn't find the list presented in a way that was helpful, just overwhelming.
Great wedding photography book March 29, 2010 Kevin Bacon I'm a portrait photographer with a good amount of experience but just starting to do weddings and this book is great. It really gives you a feel for a wedding and a good general plan to shoot most weddings. The photography is solid as well and it's a complete package on how to shoot a wedding. It doesn't go too much into marketing as some of Bambi Cantrell's books and you do need a solid technical foundation to get the most out of it. If you are a photographer looking to shoot weddings, this is a great book on how to do that.
Straight forward how to do it book March 23, 2010 Jerry W. Monroe (Chula Vista, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
An excellent read for someone who is looking for a no nonsense mechanical approach to photographing a wedding. There is not a whole lot of technical lighting or posing stuff here. There are plenty of other books dealing with such subjects. It is straight "this is what you need to do, this is what to look out for and this is the usual sequence." Just what I was looking for.
Just what I was looking for! February 18, 2010 J. Phillips (Dallas, TX USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Photography has been my hobby for the last 30 years and I want to keep it a hobby. Most of my work is in wildlife photography and involves hours of sitting in the middle of nowhere in a blind. When I opened my big mouth and told my daughter I would shoot her wedding, I had no idea were to start. This book answered all my questions and gave me a lot of ideas where to start and what to shoot. My main concern was lighting and what lenses to use. The book answered these questions and also answered my questions on what to shoot.
