Product Description
Unenthused by a white wedding gown and bored by the hoopla of the Hollywood-style reception, Ariel Meadow Stallings found herself absolutely exhausted with the nuances of traditional nuptials . . . so she chose to take a walk off the beaten aisle. In this updated edition of Offbeat Bride, Stallings humorously recounts the story of the original offbeat wedding—hers—and shares anecdotes and advice from dozens of other nontraditional couples. She also includes a chapter on budget weddings in today's weak economy, along with sidebars, tips, tricks, and planner encouragement to help you figure out your special day. What results is a combination of hilarious wedding stories and tons of helpful how-tos—a perfect mash-up of memoir and handbook.

At once practical and enjoyable, Offbeat Bride validates choosing the funky, different, and offbeat over the traditional, and leads couples through the planning process—from unique ideas on how to announce their engagement all the way to answering the question, “So, how’s married life?” Stallings is the ultimate guide to the alternative wedding of your dreams, and with Offbeat Bride, she brings you a book that serves both as an encouragement and celebration of aisles less traveled.

5 out of 5 stars Sanity saver and validating voices...   June 21, 2010

I purchased this book shortly after becoming engaged. I had never "dreamt" of getting married, but didn't hate the thought of it either. I just knew that what I wanted wasn't in line with current "traditions" nor did I feel I should spend a large amount of money that could better be spent by purchasing a house. I should add that I just didn't really care about what other people thought my wedding should look like, my partner and I needed to make that call.
As I read this book I heard a validating voice that saved my sanity. I heard from the author and many other amazing women who got hitched in their own quirky and special way. This book empowered my husband and I to make our wedding our own and feel very satisfied with it all. There are great stories, ideas, and examples that really helped guide me through the process. I was lucky to have found this book and to become part of the offbeat tribe [...]. I now make it a point to recommend this book to soon to be brides who I know what a twist on the traditional.

I am recently engaged and one of the first things that I did was buy this book. The website is great but this is worth buying.

I am not anywhere near as unconventional as the author but I do really want a wedding that reflects us as a couple and is not full of meaningless rituals (and wasted money). This book is comforting and empowering, reminding me that I can't please everyone, and I don't have to. The wedding is an opportunity to express yourselves and reflect your personality, whether that means getting married at a the zoo or walking down the aisle with your fiance instead of your father. The author leads by example and there are many funny anecdotes.

Through the stress of wedding planning I can turn to this book to remind me that the wedding is a celebration and a time to share our love with those close to us.

This book is full of common sense which seems to be absent from much bridal advice!

I've given this to my mom, fiance and future mother in law to read so they can see where I'm coming from, explained more eloquently than I ever could! (It will also give them the perspective to see that I could be a lot more "out there" lol)

I came to this book through Ariel's BLOG. This candid and authentic retelling of the wedding planning process and the inner and outer struggles a bride goes through made me laugh and made me feel not so bad about feeling some of the same things that Ariel felt - that we probably all feel at times. For instance the reconciling of wanting great photographs, but not wanting to seem so vain - I hear ya sister. But the most important thing I got out of this book was: make this day about you and your partner. Plan a great party to share the love and if it isn't a tradition, make it a new one.
