Surprisingly Wonderful! July 28, 2010 MommysJoy20 Okay, so I'm probably one of many who was skeptical before reading this book and listening to the cd. I have to say the book was absolutely inspiring. Yes, there were probably many things presented in the book that have been seen elsewhere, but that doesn't matter. What matters is how Paul McKenna inspired me for the first time to actually attempt to love myself; to not berate the image I see in the mirror. The inspirational stories (with pics) in the book were fantastic. I thought if these people can do this then I KNOW I can! The main draw that makes this different is that first McKenna gets into your subconscious, which for me it finally dawned on me that there has to be something going on in my mind. You see I have been on diets before like everyone else and of course the weight loss didn't last. Just recently, it felt as though my mind was being overtaken and I had no control over whether I ate or not. No, I'm not crazy or possessed. I just had the urge to eat food whenever I was stressed, bored, had free time etc. It was so annoying! Plus, after dieting I was completely obsessed with food. It was depressing just thinking about having to count calories again or points or order Nutri System etc. I found what I really wanted was to be free of my mind's fixation on food! Reading the book set the tone and listening to the cd just hit it out of the park! (IMO he has a very sexy voice; deep and gravely at times, which makes it all the better for me, lol!) For the first time ever I am able to not eat mindlessly! Just last night I was stressed out. I didn't even go in the pantry looking for anything. Instead I decided to troubleshoot what was bothering me. It was FANTASTIC! I put on a relaxing nature sounds cd and was able to go to sleep without even thinking about food! It's so amazing that after having only listened to the cd for 2 solid weeks I literally forget about eating until I'm hungry again. And then when I'm hungry I'm all giddy because I can eat WHATEVER I want as long as I savor it, eat slowly and stop when I'm full! I've lost 5.5 lbs. so far! I've also begun exercising again. I feel like I have a new lease on a more enjoyable life! Thanks Paul McKenna!
Truly amazing July 28, 2010 boomersmom In my opinion, Paul McKenna's system is amazingly simple and simply amazing. It's intuitive, really--but I guess that's how far I've gotten away from listening to my body.
The only reason I bought this book was because of the reviews here on Amazon. Otherwise I would most certainly have passed it by because I am not into gurus of any kind. I'm so glad all the reviews were here to help me past my prejudice.
I love the book and the system. In addition to the system itself, the book is full of information and mental exercises that are really helpful to me. I haven't used the cd yet and I'm not sure I will--I'm getting so much out of the book itself.
I've tried for years, with diet and exercise, to get rid of some fat around my gut. I know it sounds unbelievable, but I'm more than half way there in losing the weight and I've been using the system and other info in the book for about a month.
The only way the system won't work is if you don't do it.

Be sure to get the book with the CD. The CD really makes a difference. I've been listening for a month and hve seen a change in my attitude about food and exercise. I'm walking more and eating less. Don't know or care if I've lost weight...I put away the scales based on the McKenna suggestion and haven't looked back. The techniques seem whacky at first, but they seem to work, so give it a try before you write it off!

Losing weight is not complicated and no one really needs a book to tell them what they already know...what I already know. However, I find myself always looking for the "easy way out", and there simply is none. Stop eating so much sugar, fat and carbs and get yourself moving. Lower your portions, park your car farther away instead of close, find lower calorie substitutions for your sweet tooth or "salty snacks"............I do "fudge cycles", 100 calories, for my ice cream craving. I do "light popcorn" for my salt snack. You need to find your subs and add lots of berries and fruit to your snacking. Get moving and stop eating so much....it's a no brainer!

oh. my. gosh. this actually works. I read the book 2 days ago and have listened to the CD 2 mornings in a row and my food intake is substantially less than before. The appetite suppression was immediate. The book showed me how to recognize emotional hunger pangs from physical hunger pangs - and being able to differentiate gives me quite a bit of control over when I eat. The book has set me free in a way, in that I don't feel pressured to eat anymore in social situations if I am not hungry. I also no longer waste my time eating things that I don't want. I just eat the stuff I really want, and leave the rest of it on my plate. I also have a lot more energy and I find myself wanting to be a lot more active. I feel relaxed and in control around food now. Amazing.
